Seven facts you should know about low-voltage landscape lighting

PLLG is exposing – and combating – seven common misconceptions about the industry.

  1. Low-voltage landscape lighting companies do not have to be certified.

The low-voltage landscape lighting industry is rapidly growing, but it's unregulated. Contractors are rushing to add lighting to their sprinkler, lawn care, and patio construction services, but they don't necessarily know how to properly install low-voltage lighting systems. Consequently, since there is no regulation, customers don't always get the best lighting or service.

PLLG's designers and technicians are certified and highly-trained professionals with years of experience. We are passionate about working as a knowledge-based business, and dedicated to doing business the right way with honesty, integrity and pride in a job well done.

  2. Just because you hire a low-voltage landscape lighting company to install your lights, doesn't mean you'll get the best products.

Hundreds of low-voltage landscape lighting businesses have created cutthroat competition where cheap, lower-quality products are often used to "close the deal."

PLLG always tries to use the best products with the best warranties. Our product providers include General Electric, Unique, and many more.

  3. Customers are not guaranteed documentation.

Once your low-voltage lighting system is in place, your installer is not obligated to educate you on the location and ins and outs of your system. This can cause problems with any future gardening, landscape, or building/construction projects.

PLLG hands you documentation on your entire system to reference for future projects and maintenance.

  4. Installers aren't obligated to give you the best design.

Just like any business where the customer has several options, an installer can easily take advantage of a customer by continuously charging for adjustments and redesign.

PLLG offers flexible designs so owners can easily add or subtract fixtures to highlight their property's best features – old or new. We'll even come to your home or business and set-up a free evening demonstration so you can see first-hand if low-voltage landscape lighting is right for you, before you buy.

  5. Installers do not always understand important electrical concepts.

Two great things about low-voltage lighting systems are it's inexpensive to run, and you don't have to be an electrician to install it. However, if an installer doesn't understand some basic electric principles lamps will burn out, wires can get fried, and fires could start.

PLLG installs appropriate wiring, uses amp probes to test the system, and follows a list of other procedures to ensure maximum safety for your lighting project.

  6. Maintenance isn't always a part of the contract.

Once your system is in, installers often leave it up to the homeowner to clean, adjust, and change lamps.

PLLG will always offer a maintenance agreement and do our best in the initial installation to avoid major maintenance later.

  7. Not all low-voltage lamps are the same.

Light bulbs (lamps) will have to be replaced eventually, but customers can spend hundreds of dollars replacing them if their system isn't wired correctly or they are using cheap products.

PLLG tries to limit the expense and hassle of continuously changing lamps by purchasing quality, long-life lamps and installing them properly.
